How do you do Victory Rolls with fine hair?

Fine hair doesn’t mean you can’t do certain hair dos. It just means you need to do a little prep work before styling to make the most out of you gorgeous locks!

To give the appearance of thicker hair go for larger sections with your rolls, use a specialist backcombing brush for a more voluminous tease and use products to add that extra oompfh!

For these 1940's inspired victory rolls we're going to create our sections for rolling, pre-setting and gently backcombing. With fine hair you'll need to approach backcombing a little differently. First prep your hair with a volumising powder or spray to add texture. Then use a boar bristle backcombing brush (use the same method used in the backcombing tutorial) which will create a fluffier tease to bulk out your hair nicely, use hairspray to set. Smooth over the top layer of your hair by brushing backwards over your hand to protect the shape you've created and not disrupt the teasing. Create a pin curl at the end of your hair an roll inwards towards the head, keeping the tension, but allowing the curl to create volume as you roll. Bring to the head and use hairgrips to secure, angle the back to finish.
For our second style to inspire you, we're going to maximise your hair volume by doing just two rolls to create a full up do! First, take a larger fringe section either side of your forehead, towards the back of your crown. Set ina curl and allow to cool. Backcomb from root to tip, concentrating on creating a thick fluffier tease. Smooth over the outer edges and create a loop at the ends of the hair, roll inwards towards your forehead and secure with hairgrips. to put the rest of the hair up we're going to doa full sweeping roll. Set in vertical pin curls from ear to ear with a curling iron and allow to cool. Brush the curls through and comb your hair round to the side of your head and set in place using a long curl clip. Create a roll at the ends of your hair and roll in towards the head. Bring the curl to a sweeping flat pin curl on the side of the head near the crown. Secure in place by pinning where the curl first loops into the head, and inside the roll on each side. For extra security you can clip the sweep along the line which spans behind the ear. Use a strong hold hairspray and smooth the rolls with your fingers or a fine tooth comb to take care of flyaways!
